MetaVR Becomes Formal Supplier of Exercise Review Visual Systems for the AVCATT Production Simulators In August 2006, L-3
Communications Link Simulation and Training Divison purchased 8
new VRSG channels for the AVCATT-A
program. This recent sale brings the total of VRSG units purchased
between 2001 to 2006 for the AVCATT training program to 41.
As an after-action review system, the AVCATT-recorded network simulation traffic is played back and visualized on the MetaVR system in a small theater. Terrain database correlation across simulators is established as the MetaVR system uses L-3 Link developed terrain that has been converted to MetaVR database format. All MetaVR systems used for the AVCATT training device are currently delivered with the AVCATT P2 (National Training Center); P3 (Hoenfels); P5 (Ft. Hood); Iraq, Korea, and Afghanistan terrain databases. The AVCATT-A program is essential in the Army's strategy to create a virtual war-gaming environment that will enable aviators to train within networked simulators that can be reconfigured to replicate attack, reconnaissance or utility helicopters. Based on this technology, Army aviators will be able to practice a full range of tactical scenarios over a common virtual battlefield as a team for the first time ever. In addition, AVCATT-A trainers will be interoperable with the service's currently fielded simulators supporting ground-based mechanized armor unit training. Training on the AVCATT-A system, active Army and Army National Guard aviators will be able to fight and train under a wide range of simulated conditions that can be replicated under day, dusk or night environments.
