U.S. Army Upgrades CG2/Intergraph Visual Systems with MetaVR Technology When the Mounted Maneuver Battlespace Laboratory of the U.S. Army Armor Center in Ft. Knox, Kentucky needed to upgrade the performance of their existing PC based visual systems to meet the requirements of their upcoming BCR4 experiments they came to MetaVR for the solution. For the customer, the costs involved in upgrading the existing systems to meet the current database and performance criteria while continuing to run the CG2 VTree™ software on Intergraph TDZ® 2000 GX1 ViZual™ workstations were such that they decided to switch to the MetaVR technology. MetaVR has upgraded both the software and hardware for eight (8) systems to provide a state-of-the-art solution with the performance advantages afforded by VRSG. The clock speed of the visual simulation community approaches that of traditional commercial PC markets. The benefit to users is greater and more frequent choices for their simulation needs. Previous investments in legacy systems with high life-cycle hidden software costs and proprietary components need not tie a customer to a particular solution. As well, the PC 3D graphics hardware market moves so quickly now that proprietary parts that once cost several hundreds of dollars are rendered obsolete in very short order. For the investment in a single expensive and proprietary graphics card, a simulation consumer can now purchase multiple of the latest PC commercial 3D hardware and stay ahead of the performance curve and thus preserve their program investments. Simulation consumers who do not keep their investments current can see their program canceled if they do not stay competitive. Watch the Transformation!
