MetaVR Provides Notebook Visual Systems For JCATS Mission Rehearsal MetaVR delivered 10 notebook mission planning and rehearsal visual systems to the National Simulation Center (NSC) for training aviators and ground crew destined for the Balkans. These MetaVR Notebook VRSG systems are used to visualize the Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation (JCATS) virtual battlefield to enhance mission planning and rehearsal training. JCATS is a interactive, high-resolution, entity-level, joint conflict simulation that provides realistic behaviors for individual and aggregate virtual forces. MetaVR has delivered notebook visual systems with geospecific imagery-based terrain to the US Army since February 1999 as advancements in commercial 3D graphics technology provided the ability to visualize realistic virtual worlds on a lightweight and portable platform.
The MetaVR notebook visual systems were delivered to the NSC with a 22-geocell terrain database of the Balkans using NGA 5-meter geospecific CIB imagery and DTED level 1 terrain. The 208-thousand square kilometer terrain database loads in less than 10 seconds on the laptop computer due to the terrain and texture paging technology developed by MetaVR. The entire contiguous terrain database occupies only 2.5 GB of disk space using MetaVR's wavelet-based texture compression technology. Users of the JCATS and MetaVR systems are able to rapidly generate correlated 3D terrain databases for training by using MetaVR WorldPerfect. |
