Live to Virtual With SMODIM
Inter-Coastal
Electronics' SMODIM technology provides live, entity-instrumentation-state
information telemetry such as vehicle position data. As depicted in the above
image taken at the Army Aviation Convention in 1999, the test range telemetry
is then converted to Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocol, enabling
live entities to be visualized on a virtual Ft. Hood terrain database using
MetaVR's VRSG PC-based visual system. Ft. Hood
was built using MetaVR's terrain creation tools, from 10-meter NIMA CIB imagery
on terrain with 125 meter elevation posts running at 60 Hz with a 30-km viewing
horizon.
