Best Exhibit Award at IAAPA Given to MetaVR Visual System "Alcatraz the Ride" featuring a MetaVR multi-channel, visual system with hardware synchronization received first place for the Best Exhibit award at IAAPA ( International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) 2000 Conference and Trade Show in Atlanta, Georgia. The theme-park-capable ride consisted of an Apache Longbow-like helicopter simulator and cockpit on a full motion platform. To create a fully immersive experience, the six MetaVR visual channels were projected on a 180x180 degree, edge-blended, distortion-corrected dome display from SEOS. The ride scenario was of a rescue effort centered around Alcatraz and the San Francisco Bay area. In May 2004, Alactraz the Ride opened at Six-Flags in Jackson, New Jersey. The MetaVR system provides video-like image quality but with the interactivity of a real-time visual simulation in order to support the theme-park and LBE markets. The visual database consists of nearly 3 GB of geospecific imagery with 25-centimeter resolution imagery at the highest level of detail. The attraction drew long lines of people, many waiting more than an hour to try the show's "Best Exhibit" ride. |
