Model: MetaVR Terrain Database Generation System

The MetaVR Terrain Database Generation System is a high-end platform that acts as a catalyst for creating and editing terrain for the MetaVR Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG). This Microsoft Windows XP system provides approximately 2TB of contiguous RAID5 disk space. The additional high capacity SATA-SCSI RAID5 storage subsystem provides approximately 5TB of contiguous disk space for local access to source data and storage of the largest runtime databases available today.

The system is optimized for writing data to disk and for storage of your terrain data in a fully redundant storage format. It has been specifically designed to hold the large amounts of source data typically required for complex virtual worlds. This system enables a user to create terrain databases quickly with either the MetaVR Metadesic Compiler or WorldPerfect, visualize them, and then edit imagery, features, or source data using MetaVR software along with other commercial software packages.

The MetaVR Metadesic Compiler and WorldPerfect virtual world terrain-generation applications make the synthetic environment creation process as easy to use as a typical Windows PC-based graphics package, such as PaintShop Pro. Both applications enable users to create high-fidelity simulation and training environments without having to be a terrain expert.

As independent options, users can purchase software to support their creation efforts. For example, Computer Associates offers MultiGen Creator, with which users can create, convert, and edit models for use within VRSG. ESRI's ArcView, which is delivered with this system, offers ArcView for creating and editing geographic data.
