MetaVR News Volume XII, Issue 2 June 10, 2008 http://www.metavr.com/ MetaVR creates 3D real-time environments that provide the fidelity of geographically specific simulation with game-quality graphics and performance. In this issue: 23.A - MetaVR Partners and Customers at ITEC 23.B - MetaVR Visuals Used for BC Display in Beijing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23.A - ITEC 2008 The ITEC 2008 conference and trade show will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 10 to 12 at the Stockholmsmassan (Stockholm International Fairs & Congress Center). The following MetaVR partners and customers will be showing MetaVR technology as part of their demonstrations at ITEC: Zedasoft, Inc. will be in Booth #C110, demonstrating their Portable Simulator Desktop system hardware running their Container Based Architecture (CBA) for Simulation framework. Zedasoft will demonstrate a networked F-16 entity in a Distributed Mission Operation (DMO) scenario with the Plexsys Interface Products AWACS simulator. The simulator will run four VRSG channels for the out-the-window visual scene and two channels for sensor imagery. The sensors include an F-16 ground map radar and IR target pod video. The visual databases displayed include South Central Asia, Southwest USA, and a 1-meter high- resolution database of Vermont. Mersive Technologies will host hands-on demonstrations by invitation in Meeting Room A (located just to the right of Stand G170 on the show floor), using MetaVR image generators enabled with Mersive software. During scheduled presentations on a two-channel system, Mersive will demonstrate how MetaVR VRSG channels can be automatically aligned and blended by Mersive's software so that any number of image generator channels can be combined within minutes into a seamless visual scene. This integration also enhances the simulation's fidelity, reduces setup time and installation efforts, and can maintain superior display quality. The demonstrations will show Future Combat System (FCS) convoy scenarios set in MetaVR's Baghdad database and a simulated flight over MetaVR's Vermont database. The demonstrations will be available for half- days each day during ITEC. For more information, contact Mersive Technologies Sales and Marketing Manager Robert Bolen (+1 678 793 9090, rbolen@mersive.com) at ITEC. Also attending ITEC will be members of Czech-based systems integrator VR Group, who will be available to provide demonstrations of their new Team Leader Simulator application. Team Leader Simulator is designed to add simulated infantry (or civilian characters) to tactical vehicle simulators. The application can also be used for urban operations training simulation. Using VRSG for its visuals, Team Leader Simulator has a game-like first person shooter interface with supporting AI-based characters that take their behavioral cues from the tactics of the operator. A media clip of VR Group's Team Leader Simulator application can be found on MetaVR's website. Situated near the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, the 21,000 square-foot pavilion, which opened on May 22, highlights British Columbia culture, tourism, businesses and innovators, and promotes the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Government of Canada has partnered with the Province of British Columbia in promoting all of Canada at the British Columbia Canada Pavilion. For the BC Explorer display, the Canadian government purchased 6 MetaVR Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG) licenses and 2 Metadesic Compiler terrain generation licenses through Xpletive, which integrated the visual system of this location- based interactive multimedia production. The visual display, which was designed and supplied by Immersive Display Solutions, includes a 2.0-meter diameter hard-shell hemispherical dome coupled with an OmniFocus HAL-SX3 projection system providing SXGA+ resolution at 3,500 lumens. Spherical projection is enabled by a newly developed VRSG plugin, which provides geometrically-corrected imagery for a 180 x 135-degree field of view. The dome provides visitors with a realistic immersive environment with which they can fly over the terrain. Working with Xpletive, MetaVR built the 3D terrain of British Columbia for this project, primarily using the Metadesic Compiler. Coastal regions of the terrain were built with MetaVR's new Terrain Tools for ArcGIS, with which coastlines can be digitized and cut out from geospecific imagery. The 3D terrain was built from source imagery of 15-meter and 5-meter resolution with 1-meter insets, and 25-meter post elevation data of the whole province. MetaVR appreciates that the Canadian Government had many options to choose from when deciding upon a visualization solution for this exhibit. MetaVR is honored to be chosen to participate in the delivery of this showcase simulation. http://www.metavr.com/casestudies/beijing_olympics.html http://www.metavr.com/products/vrsg/vrsgoverview.html http://www.metavr.com/products/metadesic/metadesic_compiler.html http://www.metavr.com/products/terraintools/terraintools.html http://www.bccanadapavilion.ca/code/navigate.asp?Id=1 http://www.xpletive.com/ http://immersivedisplayinc.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This electronic newsletter may be redistributed without restriction in any format as long as the contents are unaltered.
