About our demonstrations

MetaVR showcased recent major releases of its real-time 3D visualization product Virtual Reality Scene Generator™ (VRSG™), and its two 3D terrain-generation products, WorldPerfect™ and Metadesic Compiler™. Version 5 of VRSG has integrated support for high-quality 3D characters with animation and rendering to support hundreds of characters within the field of view while maintaining a high frame rate. Version 5 also includes a robust new library of civilian and military characters, weapons, and animations that portray all commonly used appearances required by the DIS protocol.

MetaVR also showed its new GIS 3D Layering Control Plugin for ESRI ArcMap, which is an interface to MetaVR’s 3D real-time VRSG terrain databases that enables users to dynamically visualize in layers the various linear and point features that make up the virtual world.

MetaVR demonstrated:

  • Integrated 3D character animation with dynamic shadows in several urban combat-training scenarios using our new 3D character library. Among the 3D terrain databases on which MetaVR demonstrated these capabilities is an enhanced Baghdad Green Zone database populated by several hundred characters and a photo-realistic Ft. Benning, McKenna MOUT database.
  • New support for water simulation, featuring wave animation and sky model reflection on the surface and realistic underwater visibility. The demonstration of these features on a littoral database showed underwater terrain compiled with bathymetric data in an integrated aerial, land, water surface, and underwater scenario featuring models of ships, submarines, and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs).
  • Aerial refueling scenario with dynamic shadows, using a model of the Northrop Grumman KC-30 tanker prototype.

Real-time recordings of these and other demo scenarios are available as downloadable media clips.

MetaVR was featured in the December 5, 2006 issue of the I/ITSEC 2006 ShowDaily publication in the article, "MetaVR Expands Capabilities in Detail and Coverage", which focused on VRSG version 5's character animation. Most of MetaVR’s database demonstrations contained 3D character animation and substantial cultural feature assets from MetaVR’s 3D model libraries.

About our booth

The MetaVR booth was designed by Shepard Exposition Services, who also designed MetaVR's booth at I/ITSEC 2003, I/ITSEC 2004, and I/ITSEC 2005. The projection screen and plasma monitors were provided by Hi-Tech, which specializes in presentation equipment, audio, video, computer, and lighting rentals.

MetaVR manufactures software and turnkey PC-based systems that provide the fidelity of geospecific simulation with game quality graphics. MetaVR's software products enable users to build high-fidelity virtual worlds for high-speed 3D visualization and rapid creation of networked virtual worlds for the simulation and training markets.

MetaVR systems are used for applications such as urban operations training (MOUT), unmanned aerial vehicles for the US Army TUAV, and prototyping the Future Combat System.
