The Husky is a single occupant mine-protected vehicle
which is part of a route-clearance team called the Vehicle Mounted Mine
Detector (VMMD) system. Comprised of two mine detection vehicles (two
Huskys or a Husky and a Meerkat) and three detonation trailers, this system
locates and marks with ink any detected buried landmines and IEDs for
investigation and neutralization.
Manufactured in South Africa by the Rolling Stock Division of DCD-Dorbyl,
the Husky has two detector panels that raise and lower depending on terrain,
mounted X-ray, and metal detectors. Additional detection and protection
improvements are being incorporated in response to changing threat and
technology advances. On its route, the Husky tows a set of trailers designed
to detonate any missed mines. (photo: DCD-Dorby.)
