The RG- 31 is one of the lighter MRAP vehicles at about
18,500 lbs. Designed to carry 6 troops, including the driver, the RG-31
is a proven blast-resistant multipurpose vehicle with protection level,
mobility, and multiple firing ports that make it a small but formidable
transport. The vehicle's variants include Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC)
and utility vehicle (Cargo) configurations. Many RG-31s are currently
used by the US Army and US Marine Corps as patrol vehicles, pathfinder
vehicles that take lead convoy roles, or specialty vehicles for Explosives
Ordnance Disposal teams. The RG-31 has become the vehicle of choice of
the UN and other peacekeeping and security forces which require a vehicle
with a non-aggressive appearance to protect their personnel against the
