6DOF and 3DOF Input Device Support

3Dconnexion SpaceExplorer - This latest 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) device from 3Dconnexion is the hands-down winner when it comes to mid-priced 3D navigation devices. With its patented optical sensor technology and advanced controller cap ergonomic design, SpaceExplorer offers effortless navigation and an array of easy-to-reach function keys. Push, pull, twist or tilt the cap a fraction of inch to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate 3D imagery. Simply plug-and-play to use this device with VRSG.

3Dconnexion SpacePilot - The SpacePilot features an advanced 6DOF optical sensor, an LCD screen, and a large soft-coated, sculpted controller cap that provides a glove-like feel, guiding your hand into a natural, comfortable position. The controller cap provides the 3D navigation: moving the cap left or right pans in those directions, pulling and pushing pans up and down, moving toward or away from you zooms in and out, and rotating or tilting the cap spins the model about its various axes. This all results in minimal hand stress that helps reduce strain and repetitiveness associated with 3D navigation.

3Dconnexion SpaceTraveler - The SpaceTraveler is a powerful 3D navigation device with six optical sensors and eight programmable buttons packed into a tiny feather-light design. By simply pushing, pulling, tilting or twisting the controller cap you can simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate 3D imagery. The SpaceTraveler's eight illuminated, programmable buttons map to VRSG navigation functions.

3DOF Joystick Device - VRSG will work with any 8-button device for which the vendor provides a Windows Joystick driver, such as the Logitech® Extreme™ 3D Pro shown on the left. These devices are installed and configured via the Joystick applet under the Control Panel using vendor-supplied software.

Although a joystick does not give the unconstrained database navigation that a 6DOF device provides, a joystick is useful for flying a terrain database in fixed-wing mode,
creating a dismounted character to walk about the database, and controlling a simulated UAV camera in UAV Slave mode.

The 2D overlay help and status screens in the VRSG vizualization window provide virtual world interaction information. The VRSG onscreen help shows button-mapping functions for the controller in use.
