IED Detection Training
MetaVR's Afghanistan 3D terrain supports training high-altitude UAV operators to spot the locations of active improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in simulation exercises.
MetaVR is one of the largest supplier of unmanned aerial system (UAS) commercial licensed 3D visualization software for the US military with well over 1,000 active Virtual Reality Scene Generator™ (VRSG™) licenses in the field, mostly through the Multiple Unified Simulation Environment / Air Force Synthetic Environment for Reconnaissance and Surveillance (MUSE/AFSERS) simulation system. VRSG provides the visuals for MUSE/AFSERS, which is the primary UAS training and simulation system used in the Department of Defense for command- and staff-level joint services training.

The Afghanistan terrain also supports training UAV operators to spot high-value targets. The following screenshots from a VRSG scenario feature a simulated Shadow 200 camera picking up the locations of a targeted insurgent and a cache of munitions.

The screenshots below show a Buffalo entity starting to dig up an IED that has been buried in a hole in the road. A patched road is a tell-tale sign to UAV operators and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams of a site where an IED has been planted. Notice in the image on the right that the patched area appears warmer in the UAV camera thermal mode.
MetaVR's Afghanistan 3D terrain is available free of charge in MetaVR's terrain formats and SAF formats to all US Government and NATO agency and contractor customers (for official use only) on active software maintenance. The terrain requires VRSG version 5.7 or higher.
