IED Detection Training
MetaVR's Afghanistan 3D terrain, available in both flat-earth and round-earth formats for visualizing in Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG), supports training high-altitude UAV operators to spot the locations of active improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The following images are VRSG screenshots taken in UAV mode from real-time scenarios recorded on MetaVR's Afghanistan terrain; they show simulated UAV views of insurgent activity with IEDs.

The Afghanistan terrain also supports training UAV operators to spot high-value targets. The following screenshots from a VRSG scenario feature a simulated Shadow 200 camera picking up the locations of a targeted insurgent and a cache of munitions.

The screenshots below show a Buffalo entity starting to dig up an IED that has been buried in a hole in the road. A patched road is a tell-tale sign to UAV operators and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams of a site where an IED has been planted. Notice in the image on the right that the patched area appears warmer in the UAV camera thermal mode.
MetaVR's Afghanistan database, built in collaboration with Simthetiq and VR Group, is available free of charge in MetaVR's terrain formats and SAF formats to all US Government and NATO agency and contractor customers (for official use only) on active software maintenance. The terrain requires VRSG version 5.5 or higher.
